I will be starting a new tank and am wondering what fish to cycle it with. I'm thinking either, checkered barbs, harlequin rasboras, or flame tetras. Also how many to start with? My tank is 75 gallons. Thanks

If you want to use fish. Your best bet is to use Zebra Danios as they will be able to deal with the spikes. In a tank that size you could be ok with a school of 6 to cycle it.

Of the choices you gave the barbs would be your best bet, however I fully agree with shannen, zebra danios are really the best for cycling with. If you're not interested in keeping them after you're cycled most LFS's will give you credit back to future fish purchases.

Cycle or biospira are good for use with cycling as they both contain the bacteria that you're trying to have colonise your tank. If you have access to an established tank that you TRUST (ie: not a LFS tank) you can use some gravel or filter material from that to seed the tank.
Seems Tom Griffins fishless cycling page is down, however here's a link to another site providing info on [link=fishless cycling]http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Fishlesscycle.htm" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link].
