Hello, I need some help on a new tank I am getting...

I will be a 29 Gallon to 35 gallon not to sure yet until I get help.
I wanted 2 Convicts but read they don't do well with alot of other fish. Is this true? and if not what can I add.

I also would like to know how I can make the tank look very alive with lots of fish, if I don't pick convicts.

I am open to any combinations as long as it fits within my size of tank (29 to 35)

I would like to stay away from a fish that take the whole tank but if they are intresting I'll read up.

Thanks alot to anyone who takes the time

convicts are aggressive and should be kept with other aggressive fish of the same size or larger.

I 2nd Jason's suggestion. Rams are very interesting little cichlids and cories are quite entertaining. A school of tetras will help the rams feel safer and they'll be out and about alot more.

Indeed, I recommend that setup also. I'm currently setting up the softwater community tank with a pair of rams, a school of cardinal tetras, and a shoal of cories.

Anyways convicts will grow a bit too much for more than 1 in that size of tank...and the end of the story will be them trying to kill each other and more than likely killing each other

I'd go for a nice community tank in a 29 gallon Get yourself 6-10 of the smaller corries, not small small, but 2-2.5 inch metaes are wonderful, as well as many others Then get yourself 10 neon tetras and 10 glowlight tetras...that or if you want some real fun, add 1 male and 3 female guppies to the tank with the corries and watch the fun begin:%)just be fair warned within 6 months of adding the guppies things are going to be totally insane and you'll be needing to find an lfs to buy some of the guppies from you

Just my simple thoughts...and go for the community tank, you'll enjoy it a lot more...heidi

Oh no I read in a few places that 29 is okay for convicts, even a breeding pair.........

I like corys and rams but not to fond on tetras...Is there anything else that the rams would like??

I also already keep guppys, males....

As well I have a 29 tank with angels and corys already so I'll save someone from suggesting that, thanks anyways

I'm not fond of tetras either, although the diamonds I have aren't all that bad. Might look into barbs or rasboras? They're rather active. If you really want cichlids look @some of the smaller shell dwellers maybe.

If those tank sizes are the only possiblities then I'd skip the convicts until you're sure you can house them properly. Just because you can find a few sites that claim the smaller tank size I wouldn't do it. After all there are sites out there that claim goldfish can be kept in 55 gallon tanks, and that bettas can survive off of the plant roots .

Very true, and I don't listen to the goldfish going into a 55 so I shouldn't with this one. Good point

Diamonds? I don't think I have ever seen those......hmmm

Thanks
Any other options ?? Anyone?

Alright, the tank is 28 Gallons that I am getting I know I know one gallon more the 29 but it was also 60 bucks cheaper It is also a bowfront.

How about a cichlid of some sort one that I could fit a few in there....maybe with some corys?

Shelldwellers.......I don't think we can get shells around here......but they are very cute.

Is there any type of knife fish that would fit???

I also need fish who don't depend on live plants.
