I'm hopefully getting two used ten gallon tanks in the next week or so and hoping to spread out my stocking levels. I KNOW my current ten gallon is overstocked, so that's what I'm focussing on. I may only set up one of the new ten gallons at first, because I'm a bit out of room, but it's nice to know I have it.

First of all, here's current stock on my tanks:

Five gallon: The famed Baby(pretty sure he's a rosy barb), two algae eating shrimp and one small male guppy fry. (I had three small guppies in here before the one decided to turn male. The other two were returned to the ten gallon to prevent yet MORE fry. Hopefully.)

Ten gallon: Three golden zebra danios, one adult female guppy and at least a dozen half-grown female fry. Overstocked. The fry are small for their age.

Twenty gallon long: Nine female bettas (only minor skirmishes between them, generally peaceful), five cories, six black neons (one doesn't look too good...), one otto (his buddies disappeared?).

Four two-gallon tanks with bettas, an empty two-gallon, and three empty one-gallons. And a partridge in a pear tree.

I'm thinking best bet would be to take the danios out of the ten gallon and perhaps the neons out of the twenty? Or leave the danios and instead put a bunch of the guppies with the neons? I don't want the neons picked on...

When my sister takes the male guppy from the five gallon, a trio of the guppy girls will probably move back in there, so that will help a bit. I KNOW Baby's going to need a bigger tank in the future (much bigger!), but for now, he's growing quickly in the five gallon where he was stunting in the overstocked ten. HE could move to one of the ten gallons with maybe the danios or a bunch of guppies? And then move guppies to the five gallon?

I'm hopefully moving out of my parents' house soon. If that happens, then I can set up both ten gallons on a double stand, probably. Right now, though, I'm going to assume I can only set up one tank. What would be the best plan of action to at least HELP with stocking issues I have?

Anyone? *peers around*

I'm thinking my best bet is to move Baby and the danios to the new ten gallon, then move 3-4 of the female guppies to the five gallon (after the male departs with my sister, of course. Does this sound like a plan?

Update... I've picked up the tanks and am pleasantly surprised. They're a bit oddly shaped (dimensions 20" x 10" x 14" ) and include Eclipse-type hoods. From the measurements, they seem to be more like 12 gallon tanks than tens. Anyway, I do have to replace some parts in the hoods (pump on one - well, only one tank came with a pump, not sure if it works yet - intake tubes, filter pads, biowheel), but I'm quite happy with the tanks overall.

One is currently being used as an attempt at betta breeding for one of my females who seems to be eggbound. I haven't figured out a spot for the other tank yet. However, when/if Clio gets the eggs squeezed out of her the currently setup tank will need new occupants. Anyone want to offer an opinion on what I should put in there? Though I'd love new fishies, I have to spread out what stock I've already got. So... suggest away!

For starters, I'd probably put the danios in the 20 gallon long and get them three more friends. They like to swim and this would give them more room. They're also schoolers and I think would be happier in a larger group. I'd probably redistribute some female bettas to the smaller tanks.

I dunno... I've had those danios for a year as is and they seem happy enough (well, wouldn't you be if you had been getting live food whenever your tankmates decided to pop out more fry? ). I don't particularly want to break up the betta girls, either.

I would be open to putting the danios into one of the new tanks and getting a few more friends, though. Or something like that. They've lived their entire lives with me in the ten, and see okay with the space. *shrugs* Basically, I'm happy with the twenty gallon, though the black neons can stay or move, doesn't matter to me. I'm down to five now.

My major concern is Baby, really, and the amount of guppies in my original ten. Baby's doing good in the five gallon, but that's just temporary. I dunno... so many options! *chuckles*

Hehe... never said I had no use for any of my tanks, unless you want some of the one gallon tanks stashed in my closet. Unfortunately, with the stocking issues I have, I need what space I can get. Eventually, I intend to get bigger tanks, in which case, I may be looking for new homes for the smaller ones, but until then, I'm grabbing every available tank I can.

However, if anyone in the Chicagoland area wants these three one gallons I'm hanging onto... Top Fin Aqua Scene, sorta triangular. Very nice tanks, hood with built in light. I don't have the undergravel filters or pumps, though. *shrugs*
