Hi everyone!
Just gettin started with tropical fish, and just wanted to know which other live bearers i could go for with a pair of swords? Had a bit of a none starter before as was sold some black mollies which i love but no-one told me that they should be kept in brackish water so unfortunatly i lost them! So now i have a pair of swords and a few neons but not sure what else i should go for! all advise would be appreciated/:'

well it depends on the size of your tank. but if you wanted more live bearers off hand id say guppys or more swords. personally id put in some catfish. probably corydoras. they are active and fun to watch so i hear. and they will help cut down on gunk in the tank bottom. or you could try some snails. i dont think many livebearers eat them. shrimp might be good as well. well any ways best of luck hopefully someone more experinced with livebearers gets on!

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we dont know what to do.

What I like to tell people to do is to research. I don't know what your likes and dislikes are, what your tank info is, what you budget is, your availabilly of local suppliers, that all matters, your not just choosing fish but a pet, that you will need to take care of. That said:Go to a online store or two that sell fish. thatfishplace.com has a large selection with lots of clear pictures. Its doesn't matter if it here in the states or some where over there. You just want to see whats out there and what you like. Than make a list of what you like and than see if you can meet the their requirements, and if they meet your requirements. Than do research on each fish. How big they get, temperment things like that. They have a pretty good fish profile section here so use it. After that ask member that have the same fish as you, any tips things like that, there are a lot of nice people here with good info, so use them. That why a lot of us are here to share info and experiences

The most important thing is to do the research, it is time consuming and looking at an empty fish tank no that much fun, but if you choose the right fish now. You will be happier later

AMEN richie!

lol, well taztastic, i would recommend platies or guppies. they are the easiest of all livebearers and also are less picky than mollies or halfbeaks. but like richie said do your research. if you tell us your tank specifications we might be able to help you a bit, but it could be a long shot.

good luck and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Taz,
I can definitely say you have come to the right place, these fish people know what they are talking about! When I was begining this hobby this was the first place I came to and believe me their advice on the many questions I had made the experience more enjoyable. Just do what I did and ask questions till your blue in the face. Now to your question, research, research and research! You can't go wrong with the many livebearers out there, platies are a must for beginners like you and me. There are just so many options you have to choose from with livebearers that your research will come in handy! Have fun and let us know what you decide on.
