Shy Cories And Future Stocking | |
cdnAndrew Small Fry Posts: 4 Kudos: 5 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Jun-2007 | After reading on here for a while I decided to stock some albino cories in my tank. I went with 6, since I wanted to have enough to have the 'minimum school'. The cories seemed shy the first few days, which I have read it 'normal' for most fish to be somewhat shy / stressed in new tank. After 4 days, I lost a cory. When I added him, he was the smallest of the group, didn't always come out to eat, etc. So, now I'm at 5 cories, and they all seem to hide amongst plants and basically "sit there" until it's feeding time. I have 6x Serpae Tetras in the tank, and am debating between a pair of Bolivian Rams, or an Angel and a Ram (I don't want to 'breed' fish at this time... and I fell in love with Rams when I saw them at the LFS). So, now that my story is out of the way, here's my questions. 1. will adding 1-2 more cories 'likely' increase the activity? 2. could I add 2 rams 'and' an Angel? (or 2 angels and a Ram?) without being overstocked? 3. What combination of Rams / Angels would be ideal? (are either of the fish... 'better suited' to be on their own?) - 29 gallon tank (30? I'm not sure, a bit confused. It's 30"x18"x12" - Eheim Cannister filter (my bad; specified type of cory) |

As for the rams and angels, the rams should be fine, but be vigilant on water changes. They're fairly sensitive. Angels are much bigger and likely to have their fins nipped by your serpaes. And they do better in breeding pairs, alone, or in larger groups (which your tank is too small for). I wouldn't recommend angels, but rams would be a great choice. For "centerpiece" fish you could also consider a dwarf gourami or other smallish cichlids such as keyholes, a krib, or Agassizi's dwarf cichlids. ><> |

I had 6 but about 2 wks ago lost 1 for no apparent reason. Had him over a yr. When I found him in the back of the tank, his "buddies" had eaten the first half of his body. No long term friendships there. Once my Q tank is freed up I intend to get another one to bring the group back up to 6. 29g - 5 Head and Tail Light Tetras, 1 Black Phantom Tetra, 1 melanistius cory, 1 Featherfin Synodontis, 1 otto 29g - 14 harlequin rasboras, 5 albino corys, 3 ottos 10g - 1 glowlight tetra, 2 Black phantom tetras, 1 red betta on entertainment center |
