I take it you ar looking to keep tropicals? Also are you going to use realy plants, fake or nothing? Also what filter system are you using? You realy want to start with some easy fish first even though this may seem fustrating. You are looking to get some hardy non aggressive fish as this will give you more options later as your tank builds up. you could look at getting some danios some types of tetra neons are always a good start maby fome glow light tetras. You could maby look at getitng some Platies. For a fish that likes to be in groups get about 6 i would say and then stick with them until your tank cycles. Also welcome to FP

Welcome to the site Michelo
Have you ever kept fish before or are you looking for ideas for a new tank?

If it's your first time I'd suggest reading through this link
it helped me out tons when I first started .

Also if it's your first tank you may want to read up on the cycling process and let us know if there's anything we can help clarify.

As for what to get, have you looked to see what's available? Price and availablity will play a large part in your stocking.

^_^

for me there is no better fish for a bigginer then a bleeding heart tetra there hardy and realy non agresive but not to small about 2 and a half inches for non aggresive got neons they are hardy and beautiful and platys without platys your tank is not complete and after about two mounths and red tail shark or rainbow shark last but not least for the non aggresive tank you might want to think about an all aquadic dwarf frog(the shark would leave every body alone oh and welcome to fish profiles i hope it helps you as much as it helps me

33 gallon 7 neon tetras-5 platys-3 bleeding heart tetras-2 corys-1 rainbow shark-2 L83 gibby plecos

Please define starter fish. Do you mean fish to cycle the tank or fish you like.

If it for cycling, take Bablefish advice and read up about it. There are other ways to cycle a tank without using fish. You can use flake food or you can use pure ammonia you can buy it at a hardware store, like Ace. These are better than killing a fish or two.

If its for a pet, than I suggest that you go to a website that sells fish and look over the fish see what you like. Then read the descriptions and requirements. Than decide what type of tank you want planted, fake plants, etc.

That should get you started. If you have any question about a type of fish come back and ask people about them.

You have time if you tank is not cycled yet, about 6 to 8 weeks. I know that sounds like a long time to have an empty tank running but in the long run its good.

Oh yeah one other thing don't put to many in the tank at one time you will send your tank into a mini-cycle.
