Well I had a sad day yesterday I lost all 8 of my tetras at once. I had a very icky tank (which I think could be because I never did find my algea eater!)...anyway...cleaned the tank too much I guess and shocked my poor fishes! Had 4 of those for 2 1/2 years Anyway...new start...so any ideas on what to get? The tank looks great now, except the pH is still slightly low...getting that back to normal. It is only a 10 gallon, and looking for something new and cool.
Thanks!

sorry about your losses...

I know someone made a thread about stocking in small tanks, does anyone know where it went? 10 gallons can be kinda difficult because they are so small.
For the bottom maybe a small pleco, such as a bristlenose or some small cories, such as pandas (they're my favorite)
maybe some harlequin rasboras for the middle or a
community tank of female bettas always looks nice.

It depends what you are looking for in fish. Is there anything that really interests you?

You can add a school of Tetra's, but make sure that the water parameters are good.

OK, thanks so far! I am interested in Tiger Barbs...I like the colors. It says you should school with at least 6, but would that be too many for 10 gallons? Could I ever add anything to go with it? The Clown Loaches are neat too and they say it will sometimes school with the barbs, but are they too big?

I had ADF once, and loved them, but there were some openings at back of tank near filter and thermometer and they jumped out! How woud you keep them in? I am hoping to get another tank for these, not in the one I already have.

Thanks!

according to the profile on tiger barbs they get to be almost three inches, making it rather difficult to have a school in a 10 gallon. They are also extrememly active, and i think they need a lot of room to swim. Feel free to correct me on this anyone if im wrong!
Clown loaches also get to be rather large, but i dont have much experience with them.

As for ADF's I have no idea!

Yep, both the tiger barbs and clown loaches are too large for this tank. At a minimum the clown loaches will need a 125 gallon tank when grown to full size. The tiger barbs should have at least a 20 gallon long in my opinion.

clown loaches are deffinetly too big for a 10. same with tiger barbs, you need a big school and i always found that they usually pick on the weekest member.

i saw an ad for petco a couple of weeks ago they had 5 ADFs fo $5, but they didn't have any at the store, i was going to get them for my 15.

i have one in my 3 with my betta, they are fun to watch, it would be cool having a group of them. with ADFs you have to completely cover the tank or they will get out. i had mine escape once, make sure you use a submersible heater and push it down away from the water surface because that is how mine escaped, it climbed out from the top of the heater.

ADFs look cool in planted tanks because they perch on top of the plants in funny positions.

I have no experience with cichlids, but if there is a dwarf cichlid that would work in a 10 that would be cool. i was watching rams at the store and they seemed to be fairly inteligent compared to other fish (i wish i had a tank for them)

otherwise, yiou would have to get small schooling fish, like tetras, because the barbs are usually to big, or really active and require more space.

Well shoot...lol! Well better to know ahead of time! Are there other names for the rams and apistos? I have been trying to find them on the website and having trounble seeing what they look like. Those panda cories look interesting though.

Thanks!

type in Apistogramma under profiles , and it should pull up all the rams!

Pandas are wonderful fish, a 10 gal dedicated solely to them would be great! My pandas are a constant source of entertainment. They are however somewhat sensitive to water conditions, so you have to make sure you keep up with the maintenance. But they will reward you for your work!

Let us know what you decide!
