Hi peoples !

I think it'll be ok, but don't want to assume, so your opinions would help immensely.

I am swapping my apistos from my 10 gal into a 15 gal sometime within the next week ( I hope)

The 15 gal has gravel already but the tank has been sitting a week now and I'm sure the bacteria is dead.
Want to leave the 'mulm' for the plants... But maybe will do a shallow surface vac.

I have been seeding an aquaclear 150 filter on my established 40 gal for a week, by the time I do the swap, maybe seeding for at least 12 days...

If I simply siphon the water from the 10 into the 15, then add the seeded filter. Will the seeded filter have enough bacteria to avoid any spike or mini-cycle ?

Putting seeded gravel/filter from the 10 is not an option due to ranshorn and pond snails.

Fish will be my apisto agazzisii 'red' pair, and one small BN pleco. I might add a couple of 'fancy' MTS snails.. This tank will be lightly planted to start but will be heavier planted as time goes.

Thoughts ?

Thanks,
DaFish

i think it takes about 3 weeks for bacteria numbers to stlabilise in a filter, also i would give the gravel a good wash , any bacteria would have died and gone toxic

OH TOLEEDY!

Ditto on dans comments, I'm rather concerned about the mulm having sat around for a week, quite likely anerobic by this point. Plants wouldnt mind but any fish or snails that got into it would be most upset.

I generally try to give 3-4 weeks for a filter to fully establish itself, if you happen to have any cycle laying about that would come in handy. Additionally rules of starting any new tank will come in handy, you may be just fine if you go slowly especially since you know what to watch for.

Thanks Dan and Dabel

Good points and will be well heeded.

I will use aged water to fill the tank up about 3/4 of the way, and give the gravel a really good vac to get the mulm out, not sure if I have cycle left, if not, I shall get some !
