I do completely understand what you are saying, and I respect your opinion. I also respect the fact that you gave your fish the best home possible! As for my goldies, the only reason I bought the Rena Filstar xp# (which is good for up to 120 gallons) was because I planned on getting a bigger tank in the next year or so, and wouldn't have to drop another couple of hundred bucks on a bigger filter

No, it was one baby goldfish for two weeks, as I had rescued it with no other tank onhand (a two gallon is better than being plopped in unconditioned tap water whilst two year olds try and grab at you--not to mention the fact that he was nigh an inch and a half when I nabbed him, so I'm not worried about stunting). After being forewarned, he was promptly moved to a twenty. Since then it outgrew a twenty, a pond mold, and is now happily swimming around in a large pond in someone else's backyard. As for the 44, do what you want, as it was only my opinon, but your tank, your money---(once they grow large enough, I'd do thrice weekly water changes, but only moderate ones, i.e. 10-20%). You'll also notice that nowhere in my earlier posts did I say they were suffering . I merely stated that, in the long run, you will likely have stocking and/or bioload problems.

dude, weren't you the one keeping your two baby goldfish in a 2 gallon tank? Just out of curiousity... Anywho, 2 baby fancy goldfish with acres of a swimming room in a 50 gallo tank with tons of swimming room, running a rena filstar xp3, with weekly water changes, lots of fresh veggies to eat, Ammonia and Nitrite at 0, hardly seem like they are suffering to me. Just my opinion

I'm with Soluble. I think you're fully stocked, if not a little over.

haven't updated in a while! I have 1 black moor, 1 baby panda telsecope (like the size of a looney coin) and my original 6 cories. am not adding any more cories, the only addition will be another goldfish in the future.

I know that goldies prefer cooler water, and I don't heat my tank. my inside4 temperature is a consistent 74 degrees, and that's where I keep it. I have heater in the tank set for 74 degrees just in case anything crazy should happen, that way the temp won't fluctuate. Lots of people keep their fancies in their 70-75 degree tanks, and they do perfectly well, infact they thrive. My two fancies were being kept in 74 degree-ish water in the stores they came from. Gary Roland has participated in pages long threads about this, and makes some excellent points, but then, he always does

But i agree, i hadn't really thought out that stock list too much That's why threads like this are great! They help point out your mistakes before you make them
I think it always comes down to the fish, they are all originals. Some cories can't tolerate salt at all, and others thrive in it... Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should keep your pleco in a 5 gallon, or throw your betta in with tiger barbs, or keep your discus in a reef tank!

Well, wasn't getting any replies in my other thread, so i'm making a new one dedicated solely to the stockage of my new tank. As stated in the title it is a 48 gallon long. the temp is 75, the PH is 8, and I have no salt added to the water. Current inhabitants are:

1 black moore (4.5 inches with tail)
3 bronze cories
3 peppered cories
2 ottos
1 female betta

I would like to fill in my cory schools and also get another otto maybe, but I would really like a "swimming" fish, you know? Something really active that will school nicely. Any suggestions?

nope no bettas!
tried adding my other female to the 48 gallon with my female maria. Didn't work out too well

I separated them before there was any real damage, but Maria doesn't like friends, apparently.

Keep in mind that my black moor is small, 4.5 inches with tail, and that within a year he will be upgrading to a larger tank The 48 gallon is not permanent for him, and with adequate filtration, it should be fine. Honestly, I know he's a poop machine, but I don't think 1 tenny little goldfish is gonna overstock a 50 gallon tank all by himself, right? It's also a long, so that adds to the surface area, which is good too. Oscar is my little baby he would never get stuck in a LOWLY 50 gallon for long, although he did start out in a 20 gallon less than a year ago. When my lease is up at this place, I plan on moving into a house, and getting the tank of my dreams for him! I'm thinking like upwards of 120 gallons, and getting him a goldie friend or two! I can't wait

Stock list, revised again:

1 black moor
1 female betta lol she won;t have it any other way!
3 ottos
6 bronze cories
6 albino cories
8-10 neon tetras

To me, this sounds like a lot of fish. Your black moor will be quite a bit of the bio-load on your tank. IMO, I think you need to cut out some of those fish. I would keep 6-8 bronze cories and the bettas (if they don't nip fins!!).

I had a dream last night that I had a tank with 9 female bettas in it, all different colors It was awesome!

So I'm thinking:
1 black moor
3 ottos
6 bronze cories
6 albinos
5 female betta
8 neon tetras

how does that sound?

do you think I could get away with neon tetras? Maybe a school of 8? I don't think 75 degrees will be too cold for them...

rainbows sound really interesting, those are really pretty fish! Danios I was thinking about, too, because they are such zippy schoolers.

it sounds like it's a cooler water tank? you could try a couple of hillstream loaches. maybe some danios of some kind. rainbow fish also prefer cooler water, so they are another possibility
