well, I currently have a 29 gallon. I will soon be moving out of my apartment and into a house. I will have to mostly tear down the tank and what not, so,I am thinking that now would be a good time to get a larger tank if I am ever going to. my thoughts were toward a 30-50 gallon long tank.

if i were to get such a tank,i will carry over current stock and maybe add a bit to my schools. if its a 30 gallon i was thinking this load out:

1 Bolivian Ram
1 Sunset Red Dwarf Male Gourami
6 Lemon Tetras
7 Peppered Corys

if it was bigger than thirty, dont really know what i could or would want to add to it...thoughts are welcome.

now, for the current 29 gallon tall, it would be underneath the main tank, and it would recive the non agressive male crowntail betta i have right now, as well as a south american bumblebee catfish, and 4 Julii corydoras, pulled from my 6 and 10 gallon tanks.

so, in a 29 gallon tall with 6 bottom feeders all around 2",and a male beta, what would you add to a 29 gallon tank?

some kind of small schooling fish the beta wont be able to single out or really be interested in picking on? (i.e. no fancytailed guppies, or lyre tail mollies, lol)

he is well behaved, but i am sure if something like a skirted tetra was tossed in the tank he would get moody.

any thoughts or ideas are welcome!

Well there isn't much difference in a 29 to a 30. But in terms of your stock for your new 30 to come i think it sounds good, maybe add one more gouramis or another ram. So i'm a little confused for the 29 gallon, but from what i thik your putting in it i would say it sounds good. But for the schooling fish with the betta I would go with something like platys or some type of small tetra. The fancy guppies tails would get a beating and mollies tend to perfer brackish water tank.

well, thats why i said in my post...""(i.e. no fancytailed guppies, or lyre tail mollies, lol)""

i was thinking more like neon tetras.

as far as the upper tank, i wanted a 30-50 gallon long depending on what people suggested for stocking ideas.

i was thinking for the bottom 29 gallon tank, 4 corys,1 bumblecat,1 male crowntail beta, and then some dither fish to throw in, something schooling and fun to watch that wont get beta aggression.

for the top 30-50 gallon tank i dont know yet what i would get, other than the current loadout with a few peppered corys added...

6 peppered corys
6 lemon tetras
1 male dwarf gourami
1 bolivian ram

im scared to add another ram or gourami cause the two already have territory issues, while no fights break out, they both want their space and get mad when someone takes it.

maybe if i could find a school of peacefull surface dwelling fish that wouldnt get aggressed by the gourami perhaps, and i had a larger tank to add them to. but i really dont want to add another male gourami, and since i dont know if its a male or female ram dont wanna add another on of those. perhaps i may be able to get a female gourami, but chances are slim. anyway, if anyone has any more ideas, please post!

Oh I'm sorry I must have misread. Thats different for the gouramis to be that territorial. ok well for the 30+ gallon, it depends what you are interested in. But you mentioned top dwellers, I would go with maybe some hatchet fish, they are fast enough not to be bothered by the gouramis. If you go to a 40 or 50 gallon I would add 3 more gouramis, 1 more ram and increase your lemon tetra school.

For the 29g with the betta and bottom dwellers, I would add a school of Harlequin Rasboras. I had neons and a betta together in a 10g and the neons were very timid and hid alot. I think the betta intimidated them. He wasn't aggressive though. If you only had one type of schooling fish you wouldn't be overstocked.

In the 30g I would stick with what you will be moving from the 29g. Up the numbers of the lemons and the cories to 10 and call it stocked.
If you got a bigger tank...like a 55g, I would add a school of Flame Tetras, also called Von Rios, or some Rummynose tetras and maybe another type of cory or loach.
A good stocking would be:

1 Bolivian Ram
1 Sunset Red DG
8 Lemon Tetras
8 Flame tetras or Rummynose tetras
8 Peppered Cories
6-8 cory of another type or 4 yoyo loaches

Also, maybe you would have room for a few ottos or a bristlenose.

he is well behaved, but i am sure if something like a skirted tetra was tossed in the tank he would get moody

Yes he would, because they are nippy and would probably tear up his pretty fins.

In the 29, instead of Neons, Cardinals and Black Neons (different species) are a lot hardier
