Good, I thought I was the only one who was anal enough to want something like this!! I haven't started one yet (Tank has only been running 23 days). I have been using the logbook on here, which is okay, but not helpful when I go into a store. Think I will download your spreadsheet into my PDA and have a portable list..WOOHOO. Lots of hard work. And if you are like me, you did it while you are at work...pretending to be busy... Great Job

1.6 version is now available with the following changes:

Now has a total of 327 <edit] 326 </edit] fish with all areas reporting (including Cichlidae)

Additional formatting
Additional support pages

Now eagerly requesting folks to let me know what I missed via the "Contact Me" page.

Soooo, it's pretty much there as far as data is concerned. I'd be very interested in hearing if you found any use for this sucker.

Thanks to everyone who said, "Do it man! You're not cool if you don't."

Now if you master the black art of databases, and an interactive language for them, like my fave PHP. A simple webform could enter information directly into your chart.

Just letting folks know there are now 60 fish listed in the 1.3 spreadsheet with some additional data for each fish. The 1.4 version should have over 100 fish with some additional data. If you pulled down a 1.0 copy you will want the update as it has almost 3 times the number of fish and about 30% more data for each fish than 1.0.

If anyone finds a problem with the stats please let me know so I can correct or call out the issue in a future version.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Excel Spreadsheets. Mainly because most of the folks I work with consider creating charts in Excel to be something of a "black art" that only those who've sold their souls can attain.

Given my unfortunate addiction it was only natural for me to use Excel to help me plan my tank (that would be my other unfortunate addiction). I shared the worksheet with a friend and he mentioned some folks here might get use out of it as well.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

I'm also interested if anyone has found a particularly useful tool along these lines to help them maintain/plan their setup(s).

Wow, that was a lot of work! Thanks, I really like it and will look into it further. If I find any profile info that is questionable, I'll let you know. (I.E. Discus size is more like 8", is also a cichlid, and lives 12-14 years; they aren't as picky eaters as people make them out to be).

That's just info though, the concept and tool looks like it'll work well.

One thing: Under the name list, you have Siamese algae eaters. The data, however, is for a Rift Lake cichlid.

I was wondering why the SAE data kept saying "VERY aggressive"!

I use Excel to keep a journal, which to me is the most important tool you can have. I list water changes, pH and other readings, filter pads changed, fish acquired or lost, and notes of various happenings (eggs, fry, power outages, etc). I can look back over my notes and quickly get a feel for what's happening good or bad with my tank. I recently had some water problems, and if I had checked my journal a little more, might have avoided it. Now I know for next time!

I am also addicted to Excel. I am in charge of making all the charts and graphs for my firms's presentations. I know what you mean about it being a "black art". I have been accused of "explaining" Excel in terms that only I understand to create job security.

Anyway, you stuff looks great and might use a few of your ideas if you don't mind.

Pretty cool tool -- I've just glanced over it so far -- but it looks like it could be useful --

-- of course, the stuff that I would suggest to add would involved macros probably (i.e. check black neon, grey out all incompatible species...)

but very cool otherwise...
