Just curious how you feel about buying a used tank vs a new one. Assume it is a glass tank 75g-125g, acrylics scratch too easily IMO. Also, the used tank only has minor imperfections, such as calcium build up, small nicks and scratches on the frame, etc. By surveying the classified ad section of local newspapers, I find that I could buy a used (pre-owned?) aquarium with stand for around 50% of the cash outlay required for a new one w/stand. More often than not the individuals selling these used... er "pre-owned" tanks include everything from gravel down to the fish! Personally, I dont think I would keep anything but the tank and stand. I feel that the mechanical/moving parts of the setup should be new. Also, I dont want someone elses gravel and fish. That takes away from the experience of setting up the tank. One final thought, I would fill the tank in my garage and let it set to test for leaks.

I love used tanks. Almost all of my tanks are used. I can get GREAT deals on them, and they usually are in good condition. As long as you test for leaks and clean it well, it should be fine.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I've bought about 4 new tanks. I have 14 set up at the moment and 2 stacked in the garage. I love used tanks.

out of the 10 tanks that I have, only 3 were bought new. In fact, one of the new ones leaked when I first got it and I had to re-seal it. but in the 3+ years I've had my oldest used tank (125 gallons) I've never had a problem.
