What Is A Breeding Tank?

A breeding tank is a tank where you put your fish in to breed.

What Is A Sponge Filter?

A sponge filter is just that, a filter made out of sponge drivin by an air pump

What Is Drift Wood(That Java Moss Hooks On To)?

Drift wood is just a piece of wood people put in their tanks.

And A Filter In The Thing That Makes Bubbles Rite?(New At This Stuff!)

A filter filters the water to take the fish waste out of the warer. An air pump makes the bubbles.

These are sponge filters and they are often favored by breeders. There is little or no chance that a fry, not much bigger than a pencil lead, would get caught in it. In fact, the sponge often grows microscopic life that young fish eat. They are great. I even keep one in the corner of most of my tanks, hidden behind plants, for added biological filtration.

Incidentally, if you ever try one, make sure you get a good sized pump, and include something called a check valve. Check valves prevent back flow (siphon) if the power should be cut. when you set it up it is pretty fool proof - that is, even a dummy like me will not it is backwards when I install it because no air comes out. Then you just reverse it and it works like a charm.

Here are examples of driftwood:

http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?unique=4d05d&catalog=yhst-85300140756196&et=4234d765&basket=b%3D5C508088d800106c4234d00181a5653e388d836a82b44ea189c1ddaf5eee29202%26l%3D%26s%3DtVAyUqiXySMoVSFR5H54kgGSFSs-

And, Java Moss can be tied to it with black cotton thread. Fry and Java Moss go together well because the fry can not only hide in it, but it too creates microscopic life the fry can eat in their early days.

And, here's Java Moss (scroll down and hit the link):

Sounds like you want to breed fish. What kind of fish are you thinking about breeding? Livebearers like Guppies/Mollies/Platy's or egglayers like tetras, rasboras, corydoras, etc?

Many livebearer breeders will use other things like breeding nets in their breeding tanks.

Breeding tanks are just separate, very clean tanks - sometimes barebottom with just a sponge filter and clump of java moss. A good size is 10 gallons. Some will start with the water much lower if they are breeding egglayer fry so that the fry can come up to the surface and fill their air bladder more easily.

Depending on the type of fish, a "grow out" tank is sometimes needed so that the fish have room to grow. Take goldfish or rainbows for example - they get big and a 10 gallon won't hold them as they grow.

u really dont need to put such an effort forth for guppies just found like 10 nw fryin the 29, i think there are like 5 left, that would be.......10 fry in there right now, and those ages range from 1 day to 3 weeks, and i have 3 more 1 week old fry in a 10 gallon with 40 someodd betta fry... oh and like 7 cory fry, also found a swordtail fry, probly a month or so old, he just sat there and staired at me for a while...then he swam off and i havent seen him scense, but doing that is probly why he is still alive, so if u want to keep the fry, get large gravel/10 gallon/1 male and 3 females/sponge filter/ and a lotta plants, floating and planted, fake or/and real and u can leave them in the main tank..well if the female was in with males in the LFS then put her in the 10 first, she may give birth in a few days, heck i have had them give brth in the bag before i got home, so u may want to have her bagged seperately,
HTH
