It depends on how thorough you wish to be, most people just go for a month to root out obvious diseases, other wait two to see if any hint of longer term parasitic infections show, that could potentially take you up to three months if you wanted to be especially careful with an especially precious or large community. There are a few diseases like mycobacterium for example, and even hexamita that may exceed three months, but most people will draw the line there. Basically one month will reveal about 90 percent of disease incidences.

As far as the bio-Spira claims, i have personally used bio-Spira and it does what it says it does if you dose it correctly, however as you added fish and the cycle started before the biospira was added, all the biosprira will do is speed up & stablise the cycling process to help the tank. This looks to have happened. So the Bio Spira did its job in that sence. Im sorry it hasnt completely cycled your tank, but i think more frequent WC will help the fish get through this tough time

Thanks for your input as always, Shane

Thanks longhairedgit. That is longer than I thought. I was thinking 2 weeks. Thanks for the info!

fishmonster,

I tested again today and no change at all in the values. I did a 10-12% water change and tested the Nitrites again since those are the levels that have me worried most. Still no change. It's times like these that smaller tanks are sooo much easier. lol

The fish still look real happy in their new home though.
