![]() | What to add with black phantoms? |
cutiepatutie![]() Enthusiast Posts: 222 Kudos: 411 Votes: 12 Registered: 16-Jun-2003 ![]() ![]() | After a bad batch of fish (neons) that basically wiped out my 29 gallon, I would like to start stocking my tank again as I have a clean slate. I have four black phantom tetras at the moment that I want to keep, and one zebra danio that I'm going to get rid of as he has no more buddies. I would like to get more black phantoms (at least two, up to six), but what else should I get? I think I would like some cories, and I was thinking angelfish, but everyone's opinions are mixed on angelfish in 29 gallons. I would also like some livebearers, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think would look best with the black phantoms? I would love any input! Thank you! |

A twenty-nine gallon tank is the minimum that I would normally recommend for angels, so you should be fine in getting one. The cories would be awesome bottom feeders, and are very active little fish. They should be kept in groups of at least six or so as with tetras, so plan on getting a group. As for other fish, that depends on what you like. If you want to stick with other South American fish, another school or two of tetras would be cool. I think that the lemon tetra (a close relative of black phantoms) would look nice, as well as any other brightly-colored tetra. Flame tetras are another good option, but there are so many to choose from. Just remember, the more tetras per school, the happier they are! ![]() |

The only thing that might be nice would be a bit of colour. Since you mentioned livebearers, a few swordtails would look awesome and if they breed, you'd be providing delicious snacks for the angel! Platies might work well, too. I have some with my angels and it works well. |

Livebearers are nice and colorful, I'd go with platies or guppies; male swords tend to get large. Any of the centerpiece fish will take care of fry ![]() Either a school of cories or group of small loaches for the bottom, whichever you prefer and are available in your area. You could also have a BN plec, another interesting fish that does a great job with algae. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
