Allright, I know I've asked before, but people have been telling me diffirent things, pretty much to remove some fish or another. My tank is 10 gallons, is heated to 78 degrees, and is filtered- 90 gall/hour. In it atm are a lemon tetra, a neon tetra, a red sword, and a very small black sword, who doesn't seem to grow. Both of the swords are female. I relly want a betta fish in the tank, and would like to keep the sword. I had a betta in this tank before, who did ok, until he got ich. I am thinking of changing it to- Black sword, 3 neon tetras (I figure maybe in a group they won't be so nippy, with company and such), and a male betta. Would either of these setups work? The two fish I mainly want in the tank are the betta and the black sword. (she's just so cute!) I know swords can grow to four inches, though...

I would just return both tetras. They need a school--three won't be enough. After returning both tetras, you can add a betta. Cross your fingers and hope he's a nice one.

Swordtails get too big for 10 gallons, IMO. They get almost 5 inches long. As Soluble said, tetras need to be in a school of 6 or more. Bettas do great in 10 gallons, providing the other occupants are chosen carefully.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

If the black sword isn't growing, I'd wait and see. Some fish don't grow for one reason or another, probably some genetic defect in most cases. If she stays small, great. If not, get a bigger tank or take her to the LFS.

Good luck, Mike
