My campus tank i sometimes have to leave from friday afternoon to sunday night, sometimes a little longer. I was thinking about getting alight timer so my plants can stay on a normal interval and a feeder so i dont have to worry about that on the weekends either. Are either of these worth buying? Anything to look for or stay away from? I'de like to add more light to my tank, can one timer work for two lights?

Thank you.

Adam

I think that you need the timer, but not the automatic feeder.

That seems a very good timer.

You could always hop on over to walmart and get a simple analog timer for like, five bucks. No need to go fancy and digital. I know when I was in college, I was pinching pennies (okay, heck, I still am ).

In any case, I agree, my fish go without food for up to a week (though that is rare), and they're fine.

Blah... those "vacation feeder pellets" are nasty... they tend to make a mess and muck with the water chemistry. You're better off simply not feeding for a few days than putting those in.

If you're gone for extended periods of time (over a week), then the mechanical/power driven automatic feeders are a good idea, but make sure you "test drive" it for a few days while you're there to make sure it is working properly before you leave.

Don't use the vacation pellets, as they pollute the tank water. The fish will survive 10 days without food, easily.
