im getting ready to setup my 55g and thought of this setup would it work

1 angel fish
2 bolivian rams
3 platies
3 swordtails
3 mollies
1 pearl gourami
1 opaline gourami

i dont care about the fry from the livebearers as if they do get past parents and the others. my severums and acaras would like them.

1 angel fish isn't a very good idea as they like to be in larger groups, at least try to get a pair but you might find that they won't neceserrily get along and at least juring their "childhood" one will become dominant and bully the other ones.

It is also an idea to have at least 3 bolivian rams to spread out agression from the dominant fish.

Not to sure about the goruamies but have heard that they don't get on too well with the angels.

I've always kept single angels with no problems. I'm not sure about angel/gourami compatability...if that end up being an issue you could go with more angels or the gouramis.

Any plans for bottom feeders or an algae eater?

As far as the Gouramies go..
Pearls are very non aggressive. At the most,if there is a large group ( I have 7 in a 6ft tank) they might enourage other fish of similar size to move out of their way from time to time). They did this with my Angel, without really making contact.
Opalines, and all the other 3 spot varieties..are tricky. Might have a really passive one..might have a really psycho one. Just have to wait and see. BUT Pearls really do better in groups..say smallest being 2 females and a male..

bolivian rams - I bought two a week or so ago, 1 male 1 female... ive had to buy another female as the make was 'bullying' her - poor little thing wouldnt come out from behind the filter

now i have 2 females, he chases them both! and keeps them in the corners, he doesnt like them swimming about! so im not sure whats going on with them,

just thought i'd share that with you...

the two rams i have are very non-agressive towards another. one reason three would be worst is that when 2 pair up they could come after the odd fish out. im going to look at the list and revise it

I think the people that have two rams that live together in peace are lucky enough to have 2 females, wheras I think i have 3 males, lol.

Personally I'd do something like this:

-Yes to the angel and gouramis.

-Either just platies or platies and mollies. Other than the males swords look very similar to platies and by going with one of those options you'd save fish space.

-A BN, the yoyos and some ghost shrimp. The shrimp don't add much to the bioload, although I don't know if they'd be eated by any of your other fish.
