fry![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 243 Kudos: 195 Votes: 3 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | my tank has suffered a terrible desease (100% lethality), and now i'm getting back on line completely. i already disinfected everything with bleach, including my submersed filter. i've read about using topsoil as substrate for the vegies (i'm going to try using soil from about the house, which is known to be rich of iron and fertile for terrestrial plants). it said that such soil has a cycle of its own, including organic material decomposition and bacteria that release large ammounts of amonia into the tank's water. my question is can a tank be cycled with only soil, and without fish or additives? (i intend to use soil of about 1/10th of the tank's volume, and plant it too. amonia is good for the plants, apparently). |
