Any interest in a moonlight or snakeskin gourami? If you're going for size they get a bit larger than pearls. Just a thought

I like the Pearl Gourami idea. Banded Gourami is another possibility. If you want a cichlid, Keyhole cichlids are probably your best choice. They are less likely than the Angels to eat smaller fish, about as hardy, and have been known to spawn in community tanks. They don't guard their spawn very well, though. If you want to breed fish, community tanks don't work out too well, as most other fish like caviar (including their own!).

I can't keep angels and guppies together to save my life. In fact, every so often, both my angels and puffers get a guppy fry treat (petco never seems to want them). Also, a thirty gallon is plenty for a single, or even a pair, of angels. Is suppose younger fish are easier to acclimate than elders, though.

I have a 30g community, quite an unusual mix, and it's been set up for quite a while now. It's home to a krib pair, black phantoms, guppies, bottom feeders and an angel.

I got the angel when it was very small, maybe nickel sized. The angel is actually one of the more timid fish in the tank. He (she?) usually hangs out with the phantoms, I think because they're a bit similar looking.

I watch this tank the most out of all of mine. It's in front of the couch so while husband watches tv I watch the fish

Not only is 30g to small for an 8" cichlid, but they eat guppies and neons.

Pearl Gourami are a Great choice, Angels are wonderful fish, but they might eat your Neons.

Young angelfish, like all young fish, are sensitive. Also, angels are a BAD idea. Neones might be okay, but guppies, especially the males, which attract attention to themselves will almost surely be either consumed or bullied to death.

Yeah, my gouramis usually stay to themselves and leave the neons and other fish alone. Just don't press your luck with 2 males, they may fight if their is not enough room. They are pretty hardy. Pearls (I just got a couple) are pretty nice too.

Angels can get a little sensitive in my experience. Bought 2 young ones and they both departed this world.

You could fit in an Angelfish, but there is always the possibility they'll snack on your neons.

Other then that mayabe a gourami, a blue or a pearl. The pearls are more peaceful and better looking IMO.

Maybe a small like Pleco like a Bristlenose.

Anything bigger then those is likely to be too aggresive for your neons and guppies.
