I found two Australian aquarium supply websites, but I can only remember one. I think the other one was better too, but I'll put this one up for now.

Hi,
When I used them I had my goods with in a few days. They are in Qld and I am in regional NSW. I used a credit card so the payment went straight through and they sent the goods. You could also try ebay www.ebay.com.au.

Also remember It pays to shop around... as Puggle pointed out some have free postage other can be quite expensive and some have cheaper prices than others.

Good luck

I haven't bought anything yet, still waiting for the funds to accumulate. I think my bank account must have sprung a leak or something

I was going to use aquariumproducts because it had the best prices for what I wanted, but that might change between now and when I'm rich enough to buy them

Aquarium products has a flat $7.50 shipping fee, no matter how much you buy. Aquaria has free postage for purchases over $55, or regular Australian Post charges if you buy less than $55 worth of stuff.

mmm,
seems to be a problem with the links...
the one I used is the aquariumproducts one.
Have you used both Puggle? Which one was better price wise and service wise? I know that many water conditioners, medications & heaters were about 1/2 the price that the same products were at my LFS.

Hi,
Ok some people may have missed a very inportant point here Golfisher is in Australia... we dont have walmart and to buy one over the internet from America would be silly... the postage would cost more that the heater!

Goldfisher I do balieve that your tank needs to be heated have a look here:

http://www. /index.htm

I have purchase a couple of times from this site (including a small heater) and have found them not only cheap but reliable & fast.

honestly there is no way you can get away with a heater if you are keeping tropicals in Aust. east coast. They are not that expensive...even a 300W heater is only $40 AUD (in Sydney).. and I am sure there are even cheaper ones if you insist to spend less.

hmmm good point jasonpisani, I should have mentioned to get a submersible one...yes they are a little bit more, but are less likely to crack if the water level drops than a HOB heater would. Also they're a bit better @ distributing the heat as they can be mounted horizontally.

A heater is very important & i wouldn't buy a cheap one. Get a reliable one, as it lasts many years.

Best thing is to get a heater....it's not only the low temperature that will cause you problems, but also the swings in temperature. The tank lights will warm the water somewhat but evenings will cause the temp to drop and that's, IME, one sure fire way to get ich .

I don't like running my heaters alot, what I've done is selected fish that handle a wider temp range (no I'm not saying switch all your fish )...get a heater, set it towards the lower end of your fishes temp range.

Get some sheets of styrofoam from a DIY shop and cut pannels for the tank sides and back (you can carefully spray paint them or place them behind the background). In winter I keep a blanket (non-flamable ) over the tank except during feeding and morning inspection....Less heat loss is less that the heater has to come on. Depending on how cold you keep your house you may be able to get a smaller heater. General rule though is 5wpg.
HTH a bit .
