The two most common apple snails are the cana snail and P. bridgessi. P. bridgessi stays small and will not eat plants. It comes in various colors(purple, jade, white, yellow, blue) Cana grows to be as big as a tennis ball and will eat plants. Ive only seen it in yellow. When these snails are young the yellow specimens can be hard to tell apart. There is a way to ID them however. Pomacea bridgesii = The shell of this apple snails species has about 5 to 6 whorls. The most obvious characteristic of the shell are the square shoulders (flat at the top of the whorls) and almost 90° sutures. http://www.applesnail.net/ I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

I'm not very experienced with snails, but when I got mine it was about quarter sized and is now about 3/4 of an inch and growing... he is currently living with my male betta in his 1 gal. (I do feel bad leaving him in there I know he needs his space) The snail may be moved into one of the bigger tanks, Im not sure which one yet... The betta may eventually get a bigger tank (or I will put him with my plattys, but that could be lead to a disaster) I may also get a five gal one of these days... who knows? Anyway, what kind of snail do you think I have? I'm pretty sure he's a canna. Inky |

Canas are rarely sold in fishstores in any other color and while brigs do come in gold I usually don't see a tank of all gold snails without someone identifying them as canas. Usually when they sell brigs they either have the brown/dark green ones with black stripes(wild colored) or a mix of various colors in the same tank. |

If they appear more round in shape like your cannas but brown and white then you have marisa snails The Amazon Nut... |
