Crayfish will eat your fish. They've eaten goldfish over 5inches before. You can add the crays if there are no small fish in there. If your pond has lots of plants or filtration you can put anything in there so long as you either remove it over winter or it stays very warm where you are. I keep white clouds and tetras in my 60g pond over the summer then bring them back in to my tanks in the winter.

A pond for me in Iowa would need to be around 4' deep not to freeze and then I could only keep coldwater fish over winter. Otherwise tropical fish can be put out when the temps stay above at least 65F at night for hardy fish if it gets up to 80 or above during the day. Water doesn't cool off as much as air and it will still be in the 70s in my pond at night. White clouds and other coldwater fish can be put out when it's above 55 at night. The fish will need to be brought in when winter comes. Without filtration you need lots of plants to use up the fish waste and to oxygenate the water. If there is no surface agitation from a filter or any equipment then the oxygen will be used up rapidly. Floating plants such as duckweed or hornwort are great for that purpose. I just have a 60g tub that's 1' deep. I set it up in the spring and fill it with plants then when it's warm enough and the plants are grown some I add fish. In the winter I take it all down and sell off any fry or overgrown plants then keep some for next spring.
