hi guys

Yesterday i went and bought 6 new amano srimps (to go with 1 which was all ready in the tank) i also picked up 2 rams. Any way i have been watching the tank all day and i cant see any of them ok its well planted but still. I have seen on under the bogwood but i think that was my old one. Do you think the rams might have eatten them or is this me being silly

Any help would be great thanks

How big were they? A ram wouldn't have any problem eating a young Amano. Saying that, I can't imagine they could polish off all of them in one day. I would bet at least some of them survived and are just hiding in the plants.

I kept both together, the amanos are quite able to fend off rams, and can fend off fully grown angelfish even.

Amanos are VERY good at hiding until they want to be seen

wow i just bought 7 of those suckers yesterday too!! 2 red, 1 blue (BEAUTIFUL!!!) and 4 green ones

i cannot seem to find more than 2 at a time, but my biggest fish is a bolivian ram so the shrimps are pretty safe, plus there are ghost shrimps too if the ram decided hes hungry

Some reason I don't think the ram will care what kind of shrimp is in front of it if it's hungry.

Different colored Amanos? Sure you didn't get different types of shrimp like Cherry shrimp?

well i was told that fish like to chase after ghost shrimps (feeder shrimps) because they have different odor or smell on them thats why other fish like to eat them. kinda like how some big fish wont touch ottos but will gladly chase after rosey reds.

yeah i thought it was a little strange that the amanos were in 3 different colors. i know there were the clear ones, never knew they were colored.

the lfs had a tank full of these guys in just this week, so i thought i was grab some since i was adding algae control crew, the shrimps were just all mixed in colors... not bright, but they had green, blue n red, i didnt pay attention to spot any clear ones... got distracted with the colors so maybe i lucked out and got a couple cherry reds... i will see if i can spot them sometime and get a better ID

I don't think what you have is an Amano Shrimp.

Here is a picture of one of mine.

I looks similar but not quite right. I wonder if it is getting read to molt or something.

Has anybody bred the Amano's?.

Mine are like the one in Wingsdlc picture & they like to stay under the broad leaves, so it's not easy to spot them.

I keep mine with Corydoras & Tetras, without problems.

I have seen a thread on another forum where a guy did it. You have to get the larva into salt water though because they won't live in fresh for too long I guess. Too much work for me. I will stick to my cherry shrimp!

I was just curious & maybe try to breed them in the near future. I knew that they need salt water & alot of time consuming.

Do your Cherries breed, Wingsdlc?. Mine breed like crazy.....

Today i cleaned the Cherry Shrimp tank & counted about 100 of them. I had bought 24 last October & they where quite small, about 5mm. I removed about 60 of them & now i've atarted my 2nd Cherry Shrimp tank.
