Any way to sex a crayfish? | |
BruceTheBetta Hobbyist Posts: 95 Votes: 0 Registered: 31-Jan-2004 | Just curious, I have my electric blue and keep calling it a "she", wouldn't want it to have a compex if it was male.. (yes, I talk to my fish, I'm a looney!) |

If you can either pick up your cray or put it in a clear bottomed container, you can see its reproductive organs. No dissecting necessary, and it is more reliable than the nipper method. (i say more reliable as some cray have both a male and female set of reproductive organs, its not unheard of, but it is pretty uncommon) Anyway, its all about nubby bits on the top section of its legs where they attach to the belly. |

I'll attempt to pick it up... last time I was moving decor around, it literally followed my hand.. I think it wanted me to "stay for dinner". |

Mine's really friendly and follows my hand around the tank and everything...but she'll let me pick her up and hold her etc...she probably wants attention Here's a pic of my female cray...the pic didn't turn out well...but atleast you can see her claws okay...you can see that they're short and stubby...
