Won't hatch though unless you have a few of the freshwater nerites like olive. Most are brackish and survive in freshwater but need brackish to saltwater conditions to reproduce. You can either scrape the eggs off or eventually they will peel away and get sucked into the filter. Laying eggs everywhere is the only downside to nerites. |

If you frequently scrape the eggs off the front sometimes they'll use the back glass more where they are less annoying. |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | It could probably be done but all the commonly sold nerites require changing salinity and while that isn't impossible they also hatch out into a planktonic larval stage. Not miniature adults like most freshwater snails. They are almost always destroyed by any filtration on the tank or eaten by any aquarium inhabitants. That means you need a very specialized tank to actually get baby nerites. |

I would do a tank for them only & keep them there, as at the moment i have 6 Nerite Snails. Do they need a heater, or they survive well in the winter?. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | Applesnail.net has setup a breeding attempt for a nerite species and I believe has at least one person that's bred them before. http://applesnail.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5666 If you look through the forum there are a few other threads where people have at least gotten the larvae to survive for awhile. Otherwise I cannot even find attempts at breeding them much less success stories. You'd be best off keeping any nerites in the high 70sF but they do survive down around 40F when necessary. |
