I have a blue crayfish right now. It is a male. He will only reach about 4". I was wondering if I could get a female companion for him. Would they be alright? Also, what are the chances of them breeding?

It will depend a lot on the setup, and how territorial the species is.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

The crayfish, from what I can see, is not very aggresive.Right now the tank is a 54g bow corner tank. It has a big piece of drift wood, with java moss and fern. The plants are new and haven't grown in yet.

To breed them i would be fairly sure to increase your odds get more than 2. I've heard they breed best in a setup like a 10 or 20 gallon just for them with a few tetras live plants etc etc. You could try it in the 54gallon tank but the odds are slim imo they crayfish may rarly see each other in a tank of that size.

cool, I don't think I'll be grabbing it anytime soon, even though it's only 2 inches long, I thought you could tell by the color on the body, but I guess not. thanx
