I went to Petco the other day because they seem to be getting good fish in and the LFS people are crazy and only have fish because they have room (They should just stick with dogs, which seems to be why they are there).

Anywho, while in Petco I came across what was labeled Blue Snails and sure enough they were blue. They look just like a Mystery snail, just blue. Like the color on a blue lobster/crayfish. I didn't have $3.50 on me so I planned to go back. I went back a week later and alas, they were out of them. But then a week later they got some more only, they were not as blue but I got one anyway. It is a little black but definitly has a blue tint.

I can't find any information on this snail on the Internet and was wondering what makes them blue, diet and/or biological. I remember reading somewhere that they feed crayfish/lobster nothing but squid and it turns them blue. Is this the case with the blue snail? I was thinking so because they are invertebrates, but I might just be way off base. Also, if anyone has any experience with these, will they keep there color? If not, should I buy them squid to feed?

Sorry for all the questions!

Blue apple snail (Pomacea bridgesii). The shell is in fact white, but the black body of the snail shines through as blue.
