I was just thinking of getting some Amano Shrimps for my 24 Gallon tank. But, however there are a few things I wantd to know.

1. Is it possible to keep these in my tank with the current fish 4Tiger Barbs, 2 Boesmani Rainbow and 2 Blood Parrot (still small 2 1/2 inch both)??

2. I don’t have any plants so would keeping them be better suited to a planted tank or is it still possible to keep them in this condition.

3. Are they more suited to brackish or to freshwater? I’ve read a few places that they are kept mostly in brackish tanks.

4. Has anyone attempted to breed them?

5. Any1 got good links for info on them?

I’m relatively new to the hobby. Startd just 6 months ago. So any help wud be highly appreciated. Thx again.

Your current fish need to be properly homed before you consider adding anything... Tiger Barbs and Boesmani Rainbowfish both need groups of 6 or more as well as a 30gL aquarium.

Most, lfs tell you that you can keep a school in at least three. The problem is is the schooling just doesnot happen with so little fish. Dump the tigers and the rainbows and the parrots for that matter until you get a bigger tank. Get some tetras, some cories and then some amano shrimp. good luck with your tank

2. They're much better off in planted tanks but even a few anubias would be fine. At worst, having plenty of plastic plants for them to pore over will work.

3. Most people keep them in fresh because they're mostly kept in heavily planted tanks, but breeding them and raising the fry requires brackish.

4. Yes, but it's not exactly easy. Cherry Reds, OTOH, are quite easy and arguably a better algae eater.

5. A google search would be more helpful than I.

i wouldnt keep blood parrots with any type of shrimp, as most likly they will turn into a expensive snack unless they are feeder shrimp then go ahead. your best bet is to start with ghost shrimp and see how they do. since ghost shrimps are cheap and many consider then feeders
