Crab Leg Grew Back | |
pizpot Big Fish Posts: 382 Kudos: 82 Votes: 1 Registered: 01-Oct-2002 | My moon crab just grew his leg back. Way to go Crabby. When I got him a year+ ago, he had a broken tip (toe). Then when he molted the 1st time, that whole leg was left behind, and he had to make do with 7 legs only. Well, he molted again, and the leg is back. We suspect he grew it in his body, not in with another leg. I actually was looking at him just before he molted. He had a blue line abound his body, and that is where the shell parted. Too bad I didn't keep looking. He did it in the afternoon. |

A quick search shows 2 possible scientific names for this crab Matuta Lunaris or Cardisoma armatum. I think the latter is more often called the rainbow crab. I don't know enough about crabs to identify it beyond that. All crabs, shrimp, and crayfish will regrow lost limbs on their next molt or 2. |
