Otherwise I would go with ramshorn snails instead they are awesome looking and I am planning on putting one in my ten gallon. Does anyone know if they breed like crazy though? I don't want a snail infestation. Hope that helps Fish are like potato chips. . .you can't have just one |

However if you have canas which are big plant eaters(and very big snails) they will eventually devour any plant in their tank. Some people have even had them try out plastic plants. If you have brigs, the smaller applesnails that max out at about 2" or golfball size, then they will never go after any of your plants unless the plants are dying. They do enjoy the occasionally veggie softened or left to wilt slightly but they won't eat healthy growing plants. Ramshorns are quite prolific. Not as bad as physids but unlike applesnails they lay their eggs underwater where they can't easily be found or removed. Before you know it you have a dozen snails instead of 1 or 2. The small fancy ramshorns sold for planted tanks will not eat plants but some common hitchhikers will. Also the large ramshorns aka giant ramshorns, columbian ramshorns, etc.. are actually an applesnail species that will eat plants. |
