Fiddler Crab | |
mughal113 Big Fish Posts: 343 Kudos: 160 Votes: 64 Registered: 16-Jun-2006 | Hi... Anybody having experience with a fiddler crab? The website from where I got mine delivered said that they can live underwater without any having any contact with air. Mine lived for a couple of weeks and it always looked like trying climbing out of water.Did not alarm me at that moment as the website also mentioned that it always tries to escape. And one day i woke up to pull the dead crab out of the tank I really think now that they DO need air. Should i provide some rocks rising up to the water level before buying another one? Thanks in advance for all the advice. |

I had one for 2 years, she was a school project and I got to bring her home... loved her and the cat whanted to eat her... what I suggest is that you put sand (washed play sand should work fine) and have it kind of like a beach, have sand above and below! what size tank/container do you have it in? Do you know what a mangrove type set-up is? I can post a pic of one if you dont |

Its best to keep them in a tank with about half or three-fourths filled with water if you can, because they can and will escape. My only experience with a fiddler crab was when my parents had one. He kept getting out (even though the lid was sealed very well) and he would crawl into our toilet and hide It was creepy.... So anyway, yes, they do need air, and as with most inverts they can squeeze through tight places, making them master escape artists! Inky |
