I found two critters that were moving around strangely, and decided to remove them in case they proved to be less than delightful toward my fish. But, because they didn't look like the usual run of unwanted tenants (usually dragonfly or damselfly nymphs, and the odd water beetle nymph), I decided to keep them. Upon further examination, it is looking increasingly as if they are Gammarus shrimps. Now baby Gammarus are supposed to be nice fish food. The only thing is, I only have two of these critters, with no guarantees that more will turn up in the fish food next time I buy it, and therefore have to cross my fingers that I have a male and female. But, I want to start a colony of these things. My quarantine tank is standing idle at the moment, so I thought I could use that as their home. It's equipped with an undergravel filter and an extra airstone. There are lots of plants growing in there right now, including Hornwort, so water conditions should be good for them (they don't like pollution). So, if I can find some more of these Gammarus shrimps in my live food, I'm planning on cultivating them, because I reckon the baby shrimps will make a nice dietary addition for the Panda Corys. Any suggestions to add to the above? ![]() |
