Some people do a "fishless" cycle for their tanks. Some put a little of straight amonia in, some just put a little food in everyday to keep up the amonial levels. If you chose the fishless cycle by just putting the food in, it wouldn't hurt to have the snails and/or shrimp in your tank but that's not what would be cycling it. Good luck!

Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001	EVENTUALLY, any tank will cycle with shrimp or snails, but it would take AGES AND AGES for shrimp, and to be honest, inverts dont much like ammonia/nitrite and tend to get a bit ill.
