![]() | How to get rid of snails? |
mariaf![]() Small Fry Posts: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-May-2004 ![]() ![]() | I have a 10 gallon fish tank that has many unwanted snails in it. I have been picking them out one by one every few days - but they continue to return.

The snails must have been introduced to my tank when I purchased live plants from the local pet store.

Is there something I can add to my tank that will kill the snail eggs without harming the fish?

Thanks |

First, you can try putting a bit of lettuce or cucumber in your tank at night. Come back an hour later, then pull it out of the tank. Most if not all of the snails should be on the vegetable, and will be caught by suprise. Or, you can try adding a penny (minted before 1982) to your filter. The copper from the penny should kill all of the snails and snail eggs in your tank after a couple of days. |

I tried the copper pennies in the filter for a couple of weeks and didn't notice any change. Except one of my black tetras came down with cotton wool during this time. May be it was a coincidence, but I would play it safe and use the vegetables until they are gone. |

MTS are quite small and sometimes are too small for the clown loaches to eat. |
