I have a 10 gallon fish tank that has many unwanted snails in it. I have been picking them out one by one every few days - but they continue to return.

The snails must have been introduced to my tank when I purchased live plants from the local pet store.

Is there something I can add to my tank that will kill the snail eggs without harming the fish?

Thanks

There are several ways to rid a fish tank of snails.
First, you can try putting a bit of lettuce or cucumber in your tank at night. Come back an hour later, then pull it out of the tank. Most if not all of the snails should be on the vegetable, and will be caught by suprise.

Or, you can try adding a penny (minted before 1982) to your filter. The copper from the penny should kill all of the snails and snail eggs in your tank after a couple of days.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Try the zuchinni or lettuce. It's safer. I tried the copper pennies in the filter for a couple of weeks and didn't notice any change. Except one of my black tetras came down with cotton wool during this time. May be it was a coincidence, but I would play it safe and use the vegetables until they are gone.

well this is what i did in my old tank- i simply went to my lfs and purchased 2 clown loaches. i had them in my tank for about1-2 weeks and all the snails were gone. now at this point the lfs was willing to buy them back, but i started to like the little fellas so i kept them, and added more when i got a bigger tank (which wasnt too much later)

Hi tessa..hope everything goes well with your fish
I belive most of the loaches and the upsidedown catfish eat snails.

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

what kinda snails u got? if you have MTS then youd prob be better off with the lettuce. MTS are quite small and sometimes are too small for the clown loaches to eat.
