Hey all! A couple weeks ago I had bought a shlew of ghost shrimp to put into my 20g and 10g just for custodial purposes.

I noticed on ONE of the ghost shrimp ("in" rather) that it looked like it had eaten a white string. It is just kinda in his body. I figured maybe he ate it, clogged his system and the system re-routed itself (I would like to slap myself for the naivety there).

Well, today it hit me like a ton of bricks when I thought to myself that this "string" looked like it had grown that it is probably a worm! (Or some type of internal parasite)

Does anyone have any experience with this? These things are cheap so I doubt it would do any good to treat it but my concern is... Has this thing laid eggs (the worm)? Are my other fish succeptable? I should dispose of this particular shrimp right? HELP!

As far as a ghost shrimp goes, if in doubt I would just dispose of it.

I kinda figured that about the ghost shrimp but now I am concerned about my other fish. Is there a possiblility this "worm" has laid eggs to infect the others? *eep*

Since you're not sure if it actually being a "worm", just keep an eye on your fish for symptoms. I would not start medicating them for parasites on a "maybe".

Thanks for your input all... It was definetely some kind of worm/parasite because I looked this morning and it was even bigger wrapped all around the inside of it's body, wish I could have taken a picture... But unfortunately the shrimp in question met his demise...
