I have this mystery snail that cruises around the tank, then suddenly stops, falls to the ground and will stay in whatever position it lands in (upside down, sideways, whatever) for HOURS. I have thought on several occasions that it was dead, but then I saw it cruising the tank again. Is this normal behavior for a mystery snail? Thank you.

some snails will do this. it's one of the things that makes them kind of interesting to watch. i have never heard of one laying upside down for any amount of time though

This is completely normal Floating at the top of the tank for a while is, too. I guess they just get tired of clinging to the glass or something.

Mine did it all the time. I hated it, drove me crazy.

I would always think he was dead...but he always proved me wrong.

I really wonder why they do this?

I didn't think snails played dead like clown loaches...

I had one that used to do it all the time as well. Unfortunately, when it did finally die, it took me a while to realize it... Let's just say removing him when I figured it out was not the most pleasant experience.:%)
