angeleel Fish Addict Posts: 561 Kudos: 472 Votes: 61 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 | Hello, well I got another tank today, lol again I am up to 5 now. This one is a 5 gallon that is now home to a Crayfish. This would be my first time taking care of a Crayfish, I am pretty sure I got a female, they said it was at my LFS, and when I did my reading on them I also I think that she is female. If anyone has a comment on keeping them it will be helpful, like what do they like for treats, what a perfect setup would be and so on. These are funny little guys she has already started to redecorate, by moving rocks into the caves I have provided. Any comments welcome =p Angel Eel Last edited by angeleel at 29-Mar-2005 19:07 |

Yes, they crawl around constantly (unless moulting) and will move decor if it can be moved. Also, they WILL try and crawl out no matter what...so, please cover any and all possible escape routes in your hood fixture. Last edited by 1tankneverenuff at 30-Mar-2005 02:49 |

acei Big Fish Posts: 316 Kudos: 291 Votes: 1 Registered: 18-Mar-2004 | i have a blue cray (procambarus alleni) and he is cool to have. i have him in a 20long with some white cloud mountain minnows and a betta. fish and crays dont really get along, but i know the risks and am willing to put op with a few dead fish every once in a while. mine likes a temp of 74 degrees and a lot of things to climb on. he also really likes his rock caves. i like to feed mine a variety of food sticks. i have sticks made from shrimp, earthworms, brine shrimp, algae, and a tropical food mix stick. every once in a while i will toss in a pea, a small chunk of carrot, or spinach. he pretty much eats anything. dont over feed him. one food stick a day maximum. less if she is smaller than full grown. do you know what kind you have? check out my cray tank http://www.cichlid-forum.com/tanks/images/4506a.jpg |

I don't know the scientific name, but they cost about $1.99 here in the US at most LFS. I believe their max size is around 4"-5" and I'd recommend a minimum of 20 gallons for their home...and make sure they are BY THEMSELVES. No other animals in there unless you want dead ones. If you want, I know of a few very informative crayfish websites I can post for you... |
