well, about a few months ago i purchased a pair of amano shrimps, Hannibal and Hannabelle, and since i hadn't seen them for a month or two, i thought they were dead.

I recently bought some cories, and made a concoction of bloodworms, flake and powdered fry food that i mixed with tank water and squirted near the substrate with a pipette for them. This had two results :

1) cories went wild for it.

2) I saw my shrimp!!!!

they were peeking out from the driftwood. Funny thing is, when i bought them (mislabeled as ghost shrimp, btw) after i took them home, i realized they were amanos. they were clear with a yellowish stripe down their backs, and they didn't look as "goofy" as ghosties. Well, the shrimp is just saw, were MUCH bigger than the last time i saw them a while back, and BROWN with a white stripe!!!! :%)

they were consistently clear for quite some time, so i don't think they were just faded from stress...

weird huh? has this happened to anyone else, or were my shrimp SEVERELY mislabeled, and now i have a different type than amanos or ghosts???

i thought it was pretty cool

Don't stress it. It comes down to their diet. IE I had ghost shrimp, they were clear but once they started to eat the algae in my tank they then developed a very green stripe

but the weird thing is, it's not just the stripe, the whole thing was mahogany brown with a white stripe... weird! I dunno, maybe they've just been munching on too much driftwood !!

Ive had ten Amanos for almost a year now and the only female (my usual luck) turned brown after some months. All the males are still rather transparent as they were from the start. So I believe things are as they should and youve got to females there.

So here I am once more...

They change color based on diet, environment(camoflage), and moulting cycle. They change color during and after the moults

Yep... I was just going to say that it sounded like they were young Bamboo Shrimp. They are brown with a white stripe down their backs. After mine molted, however, he was bright red! They also get fairly large, about 3-3.5" long.

Bamboo shrimp are filter feeders... Do your shrimp have fan-like appendages where their pinchers should be, GuppyLove?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

don't worry when my ghosties eat green flakes they are all green and when they eat red flakes they are all red. My little brother gets a kick out of this. HE thinks the fish should stop when they pass a red shrimp and should go when they see a green shrimp.]
