I have found that my apple snail, who was single at the time, would only lay eggs in my 10g tank. It wont lay in the 90! (was getting nibbled on daily by queen botia), so i tried it in the 25, no luck either. Back in the 10g, it lays eggs almost daily. I added a blue one, and now they mate all the time, but no eggs yet. They seem to prosper best in a tank with tons of food. Dont forget to feed them! Just cuz they have algae, they would still appreciate some shrimp pellets, or wafers of any type, zucchini, etc.
It seems to me they seem happier in a smaller tank. I dont know why, I thought it would be the opposite.

hi
This might sound silly but with those snails you need a female and male. Try what was suggest above or go out and buy a couple more.

i thought all snails were asexual, so there is no such thing a male and female, they can mate with whoever they happen to run into, even mate with themselves!

Not all snails can switch sex, and even among the ones that can, not all of them can reproduce alone. Some apple snails can change sex, but at least according to applesnail.net, none of them can reproduce asexually.

No, different species of snails reproduce differently. Some are Asexual (meaning they can change sex), some are Hermaphrodites (meaning they are both sexes at once) and some are Sexual (meaning you need to have a male n a female). Most species, if not all, of Apple Snails, are Sexual. You need one of each gender to reproduce. It is possible you lucked out and got all females or all males.
If you go to Applesnail.Net, there is a great picture of a snails reproductive organs. You find out which your snail is by taking it outta the tank, flipping it upside down, and waiting for it come out. As it does you will be able to see on one side the gender. Applesnail.net shows pictures of both so compare. Dont worry about taking the snails out of the water, they will be fine for many weeks out of water as long as they are moist.
Also, Apple Snails will not lay eggs unless they can get above the water. My snails lay eggs in the top of my hood, as It has no glass or acrylic cover, and they lay eggs, of all places, right next to the lightbulb!
I hope this helps you. Heres a link:

I always heard if you raised the water temperature a few degrees and gave them plenty of food to eat (but not too much), they'd lay eggs all over the place.
