I agree with everyone here. That is definitely a ghost shrimp basing on the shape of the body. Amanos do grow to around 2" but they are mostly the females. Males grow smaller than that. One way to distinguish males from the females apart from their eventual size are their markings. The male's marking on the sides tend to be spots making a dotted line whereas the females have some spots close to each other that end up forming short lines on their flanks.

My Amano's are easliy 2", if not larger. Ghost shrimp are usually smaller.

But, the easiest way to tell is by the shape of the back. Someone once called Ghost shimp "kinky-backed" and it's true. Amanos don't have the angled backs like Ghosts.

A 2" long Amano Shrimp? I'd have to see it near a ruler to believe it.

Did you mean 2 cm?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I bought this shrimp as an Amano (Yamato). I don't know much about these guys, can anyone confirm that's what it is.

Here's a pic:

How large is it? The body looks more like that of a Macrobrachium than a Palaemonetes

He's about 1 1/2 inches.

LF,

Yes, I would agree with you view. It's always good to hear other peoples experiences etc.

I could have studied pictures of the different shrimp species, etc, before going to the store, but I was actually there buying some rummys and otos and I asked if they had any freshwater shrimps and of course they had an Amano --------- NOT!

I have no clue as to what kind of shrimp that is,

but tetratech, I certainly appreciate that you "teach" me all these things about them. Well, at least you do it indirectly by creating these threads that speak of them.

Thanks guys for not only educating him but me as well.

Ingo

Definitely a ghost shrimp. I've had both type and this is not an amano.

That's what I thought when I first looked at but I've never actually seen an amano shrimp aside from a few pics.
