Just noticed snails in my tank. There are only two that I've been able to see. One is larger than the other. I guess they were on some java fern I recently added. My questions is will they become a nuisance or should I leave them alone? I heard they multiply like crazy. Anyone have any experience?

they multiply exponentially!
that's when they become a nuisance.
i have friends that keep them and they swear that their tank is "cleaner".
personally, i get rid of them.

Depends on what kind of snails you have. Malasian trumpet snails are beneficial (conical shell, long and narrow, twisted), regular pond snails are just pests. Trust me. If they're pond snails, take one out and put it in a cup of water. Cover it and come back in a little while. You won't BELIEVE the amount of waste that tiny thing can produce!

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

Snails are real pests & they multiply like crazy. Today you have 2, in a weeks time you see 200.

They will multiply like crazy. In my planted I have many now. At first they freaked me out but I've come to accept them now.

As of yet I've not seen one damage a plant they seem to prefer munching on dead leaves or algae so I don't worry about them. Having said that I do try to keep the population under control. I do this by just removing any I can reach easily, but I don't go hunting for them.

If they really bother you there's a number of ways to control them.
You can get a snail eating fish, pretty much any loach will gladly tuck into them. I've heard that female bettas have a taste for them but no experience of that.
You can also drop in some cumcumber or lettuce at lights out, the next morning it should be covered in snails happily munching, just remove the vegetable of choice with snails attached and dump.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
