Snails on Algae? | |
fairynr Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 81 Votes: 4 Registered: 10-May-2005 | Ok, I have a 5g betta tank that has insane algae. I'm afraid to add any ottos, because of my betta's agression, so I'm wonderind if snails will do. Will they eat algae? |

fairynr Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 81 Votes: 4 Registered: 10-May-2005 | I do a 10% change every week, but since its a betta tank(filtered) and nothing is left on the ground, I haven't done a gravel vac yet. Its just a long, lime green flowing algae that grows on everything.... And I don't see how there would be an excess of nutrients since I only have one betta, feed him everyother day, and there are several plants. The light is 15watts, though, so that may be why. |

Try tossing in some floating plants like water sprite, duckweed or hornwort. mebbe that would help. good luck p.s. Have you tried an otto yet. from what I hear bettas are only agressive towards their own, then only the males. It may be an option. Last edited by divertran at 23-Sep-2005 10:11 |

fairynr Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 81 Votes: 4 Registered: 10-May-2005 | yeah, I leave on the light for about 10hrs...and in the morning, there is a ton of natural light. Maybe I should just leave it off altogether, and take out all the plants(they are almost dead anyway) and just put a piece of driftwood and java moss? Then I could take things out easily and clean them. I have tried an otto, and my betta attacked him(I took him out to my 10g, where he lives happily). Thanks all, I'll try simpling the layout, and see how that works. Last edited by fairynr at 25-Sep-2005 15:42 |
