Ok, I have a 5g betta tank that has insane algae. I'm afraid to add any ottos, because of my betta's agression, so I'm wonderind if snails will do. Will they eat algae?

They will, however they will produce more waste than they will clean.

You might be best off removing it manually

most of the "pest" type snails will eat the algae, but not fast enough to keep it under control.

Snails will eat the Algae, but i think it is easier to clean it by hand.

I would (and I do clean it off the glass), but the algae is on the gravel, rocks, everything! It's just too hard to clean without taking out the whole top layer of gravel and all the plants. I was just hoping they would eat off some to help.
oh well, thanks for all your help/:'

how often do you do water changes and how much do you change? if there's algae on the gravel you can usually get rid of it by doing a good gravel vac and getting the gravel stirred up a little.

I do a 10% change every week, but since its a betta tank(filtered) and nothing is left on the ground, I haven't done a gravel vac yet. Its just a long, lime green flowing algae that grows on everything.... And I don't see how there would be an excess of nutrients since I only have one betta, feed him everyother day, and there are several plants. The light is 15watts, though, so that may be why.

I think so. 3 wpg is a lot of light. how long do you leave it on? and the room has a lot of natural light perhaps?
Try tossing in some floating plants like water sprite, duckweed or hornwort. mebbe that would help. good luck

p.s. Have you tried an otto yet. from what I hear bettas are only agressive towards their own, then only the males. It may be an option.

yeah, I leave on the light for about 10hrs...and in the morning, there is a ton of natural light. Maybe I should just leave it off altogether, and take out all the plants(they are almost dead anyway) and just put a piece of driftwood and java moss? Then I could take things out easily and clean them. I have tried an otto, and my betta attacked him(I took him out to my 10g, where he lives happily).
Thanks all, I'll try simpling the layout, and see how that works.
