i read somewhere that the Iodine used in saltwater tanks can be used in freshwater tanks in smaller dosages and it'll benefit shrimp and other invertebrates. i wanna know how it works and is it really effect? will it harm live plants or fish? anyone know?

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it helps with the molting process. Use reef iodine 1 drop per 5gal. I've never had any problems using it with other fish, but I don't have real plants. I haven't heard of anyone else having problems with it.
