What happend to my mystery snail? | |
wilicynth Small Fry Posts: 5 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 13-Nov-2004 | Hy there 4 days ago I purchased a golden mystery snail. It used to life in the just for plants aquarium at the shop. The gay told me they do nothing to the water or temp. for this tank. Well... The first two days little charlie was a very happy snail indeed. He has been put in my quaranteen tank just in case....(With a rummy nose tetra, bristelnose cat and a cardinal tetra) roaming about looking for food. On the 3th day he looked less happy. He only put out his head half way. I checked the water for Ammonia and it was ~ok less than 0.1 pp. Neverless I conducted a 50% waterchange with the results that he looket a bit happier. BUT TODAY HE just floats on top of the water has gooie stuff comming out of the side of his shell(Bubbles). I think he is DIYNG!! Waterquality as follow: PH 8.0 plus Watertemph. 25 - 27C (it has been very hot lately) Ammonia 0.00pp Nitrite 0.00pp So what happend????? Can you guess so I dont do the same error next time. It is my first snail purchase. I always just stick with freshwater fish. thanks |

When near the top my snails will occasion use the breathing tube and lung. The lung can trap air and sometimes the snail has a hard time to expell and this will result in floating. The snail will correct the situation on its own. Most snails will be active right after waterchanges. check out applesnail.net for most of your snail related questions. wilicynth Small Fry Posts: 5 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 13-Nov-2004 | Thanks for all your replies. I just conducted a waterchange on sunday. That is 2 days ago. He still floats. It is now the 2nd day and does not want to move. Well I checked his life and there is no need for CPR yet as he still seems to be alive.... Well bearly alive. I may do another waterchange a see what happens. The other fishes seem all be having a good time. I checked the water again and all seem to be 0.00. NO change there.... Any other sugestions? Tha |
