I want to add a snail to my 5g. tank with my betta and I want to add another one in my 2g. with my other betta, but I dont know what kind of snail to get, what do you guys suggest? In the 5g. I want to also add a few ghost shrimp. And I am prepared to move them if the bettas become overly aggressive. thanks

the only snail i would recommend for either tank is the malaysian trumpet snail (mts). put a handful of them in each tank and just feed as normal, they will eventually grow their population, but they are not a pest snail

Asolene Spixi, doesn't get very large (1" or so) and won't destroy your plant.

canas often sold as gold mystery snails will eat plants and get the size of a baseball. There is also the bridgessi which looks almost identical but only gets 2" or so. About the size of a golf ball. They came in all colors, purple, red, ivory, gold, olive, burgundy.... but are most often sold as black mystery snails in their wild color(dark brown with black stripes, sometimes with some yellow coloring). Brigs eat meaty foods such as fish foods and only chew on plants when starving or the plants are dying. To tell the 2 apart you'd need to go to applesnail.net and look at the picture comparison and try to judge the angle of the shells.

I've had a [link=Japanese trapdoor snail]http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1077" style="COLOR: #FFFF99[/link] for a long time, it's maybe 1" and doesn't bother plants.

I also like MTS but I'd only put a few in a 5g to start with since they multiply quickly.
