I think this is the correct section of the forum for this post.

We're cleaning out my mums tank right now and I saw this thing shooting across the tank so caught it. As I've no idea what it is I'm not sure if it should go back in or not. We've no idea where it's come from. The only possibility is on one of the plants. I get mine from the same shops and I've not had one of these. It's about and inch long.

Dragonfly larvae for sure. Cool find, but if you have small fish, it's good you got it out of the tank as they are voracious predators.

Present: L183, L114, L330, LDA33, L059, L340, L136, L399, Clown, Whip Tail

Past: L001, L239, L200, L134, L030, L110, L204, L260, LDA08, L226, Ancistrs sp3 albino as well as calico, L187 (sp2), Common Hypostomus punctatus

Definitely some type of nymph and most are predatory towards small fish. Best to put it in a pond outside and definitely not back in the tank.

Tank is hooded and in a bedroom away from the window. I've no idea how it got their either. Surely from a plant but there aren't any recent additions to the tank.

Thanks for the info. He went in the pond. Well, even if he gets munched at least he's served a purpose, right...

I beg to differ that is definantly a mayfly larvae from the order (emphimeroptera). They are still predatory though. they also look like a dragon fly nyph somewhat, but these have gills on the side and 3 tails
