Zombie snails? | |
coffeeman Enthusiast Posts: 186 Kudos: 60 Votes: 21 Registered: 15-Jan-2003 | So I have a tank that has nothing but a trapdoor snail in it. I thought the snail died about 6 months ago as it just stayed in one spot with its trapdoor shut. A few weeks ago, I decided I'd think about taking the tank down, and so I unplugged the heater but then never got around to taking the tank down. Lo and behold, a few days later, the snail was not in the spot she had been in for the last 6 months! For the next few weeks I saw hwe cruising all over the tank and it was a little bit creepy. Then last week, I saw her on her back with her trapdoor partly open and I assumed she was a goner yet again, only to wake up today to find her AND A BABY SNAIL meandering around the tank. This is creepy. If I'm bitten by a zombie snail, do I turn into a zombie snail or just a human zombie? |

LOL that is hilarious! I think a zombie snail. You unplugged the heater, and the tank cooled, and the snail became more active. This is quite common. Many snails prefer cooler temps than we give them on average. I believe Japanese Trapdoors are one of the cooler water snails. Also, when a snail dies, it makes a horrendous stench. If youre ever unsure as to whether your snail is dead, lift the lid and take a sniff. You will know right away. I had a Marisa ramshorn die in my tank and it took me 2 days to discover what the awful stink in the room was. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
