we saw some in LFS and were wondering if they would go in our 15g tank. we are currently cycling with 5 cherry barbs, and all is well. we are thinking of adding a male betta at a later date, but would like something soon to clean the bottom. would these be ok, how hardy are they??

thanks

They help clean debris off the gravel, and they keep your water crystal clear. They should work with the fish you listed. They do best in hard water, temp doesn't seem to be too important. To supplement their diet, get a liquid invert food like Kent Zooplex. Cyclop-eze is also very good.

Wood Shrimp are a filter feeding Shrimp. They are more likely to hang on a plant and sift debris from flowing water, however, if there is not enough debris floating in the water, then they will go along and clean the bottom. They are a fairly large shrimp at a 3 inch maturity size, and can change their color to blend in. I keep mine in soft water with no problems. Add 1 drop of Kent Marine Iodine after every water change for the shrimps health.
If they like their environment they will shed their exoskeleton every 2-3 weeks. Leave it in the tank as the shrimp will eat it for nutrients.

thanks for the info. are they hardy? only we are currently cycling our tank with the barbs, and they leave quite a bit off food on the bottom. its sand substrate so not easy to clean out. how long do you think we should wait before adding the shrimps??

Wait until after the cycle. I've found them to be surprisingly hardy.
