I have one in my tank with an Oscar and a Jack Dempsey. He has his own cave, but does come out and about frequently. However, right now he only has one claw because the Oscar tried to make a lunch out of him. Make sure to buy a big one and have plenty of hiding spots.

Both oscars and Jack Dempseys get too large to be housed in a 55 gallon permanently.

But back on subject, it is a bit risky. If the cichlids are more than a few inches long, they might think of the crawfish as an expensive meal and eat it.

Most crustaceans are best kept in a species tank.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Ill be proof of that my Oscar is about a inch and a half to 2 inches, and 30 mins after the lobster was in the tank he munched it claws, head and everything no evidence left what so ever. But those crayfish are awesome the bright blue colour, love them.

oscars eat just about anything, keeping any species much smaller than them with them is pretty much death for the smaller animal. Not the best choice to be keeping invertabrates with.

I was a N00b at that time and apparently they dont mix at all, but my LFS has the cobalt blue lobster in with a community, with JD, Silver Dollars, and 4 Oscars all fish are over 8 inches and the lobster is about 4 inches as well. the tank is a 350G though.
